Discovering Minangkabau Culture in Bukittinggi!
As part of the International Students Welcome & Orientation Program 2026, Universitas Andalas took our international students on a memorable field trip to Bukittinggi on 26 September 2026!
The journey was officially sent off by the Rector of Universitas Andalas, together with the University Secretary, who were present to warmly welcome and accompany the students at the departure ceremony.
The journey began with a refreshing stop at the beautiful Lembah Anai Waterfall, where students enjoyed the natural beauty of West Sumatra.
The adventure continued at Sanjai Tourism Village, where our international students had the opportunity to experience the richness of Minangkabau culture firsthand. They dressed in traditional Minangkabau attire and were introduced to the tradition of Makan Bajamba, a traditional communal dining practice that reflects togetherness and hospitality.
Students also got hands-on experience making traditional local delicacies, including onde-onde and pisang kapik, and witnessed the traditional process of making sanjai, one of Bukittinggi's iconic traditional foods.
The day continued with a visit to the iconic Jam Gadang, giving our students the chance to explore one of Bukittinggi's most recognizable landmarks while creating unforgettable memories together.
Through meaningful cultural experiences like these, Universitas Andalas continues to welcome international students not only into its academic community, but also into the rich cultural life of Indonesia.
Welcome to Universitas Andalas.
