On Tuesday, the Unand International Office was visited by the PORA Team, a team consisting of government agencies and/or institutions that have duties and functions related to the presence and activities of foreigners throughout Indonesian regions as well as certain designated zones under the law. Pora Team members have the task of providing advice and considerations to agencies and/or institutions relevant government, regarding related matters with foreigner control.
Provincial level PORA Team members consist of at least the following elements:
- Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights;
- Regional Police;
- Provincial Regional Government;
- Provincial National Narcotics Agency;
- Regional State Intelligence Agency;
- Military Regional Command/Military Resort Command.
The PORA Team, consists of representatives from several elements, including the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Immigration Office, and the National Intelligence Agency, West Sumatra. The purpose of their visit is to socialize their existence and functions in accordance with the Regulation of The Minister of Law and Human Rights about The Foreign Surveillance Team (Number 50 Year 2016).
The visit, which was welcomed by the Head of International Office, featured 5 representatives from foreign students studying at Andalas University, all International Office staff, and Staf of the Risk Management Unit. The head of the PORA team mentioned that foreign students must comply with immigration regulations such as posessing legal documents (pasports, visas, and residence permits), and prohibitions on full or part-time job, criminal acts, and involvement in consuming or selling drugs. They were also invited to always report their whereabouts to the university, including asking permission if they want to travel outside West Sumatra province, and to report anything that threatens their safety to the university, not to the public by making news on social media. The presence of the PORA TEAM is also to ensure the safety and comfort of foreign students studying at Andalas University, and while they are in Padang City in particular and in Sumatra Bara Province in general.
